Level-D Simulations: The 767 300ER

FS2004 Add-on

Publisher Flight1.com

This is definitely one of the best simulations I have flown to date. The level of realism in this package is of superior professional standard. Interesting to note is that the simulation was written by the same team that developed 767 Pilot in Command. Subsequently flown and tested by actual 767 pilots makes this package well worth an investment of time and money, The new 767 is not just another drop in for the FS2004 but an entire suite of new functions that make this a lasting educational experience,

Whether you are novice or professional there is something in this simulation for both. To start with the product is sold with a Free Bonus DVD produced by ITVV. I recommend the viewing of this 80 minute flight, resisting the urge to strap in and take-off. Doing this will make your first flight just that much more of an enjoyable and educational experience.

Additionally you will get a large panel chart that should be reviewed before spooling up your engines. Spending some time with this will help you get familiar with the cockpit layout and groupings.

In PDF format the master disk contains a very large Operating Manual of 175 pages. This will explain every toggle and switch pictured on the panel chart. Optionally you can purchase a special print edition of the 767-300ER manual with over 400 pages of information properly bound from Flightlevel publishing www.leveldsim.com or www.flight1.com for $34.95.

It doesnt stop there. Again in PDF format there are nearly 70 pages of checklists that you should have ready before and during the flight. To enhance the manual you also get 15 pages in addendum form. A paint kit is also supplied so you can customize your plane.

The real good stuff can be found in the tutorials, of which some have pre-programmed emergencies. I suggest you take a tutorial flight before attempting to command this plane on your own. Finally there is also some flight configuration software. This software will load up your plane with fuel, passengers and cargo for any flight you wish. A great help in the pre-flight preparation and realism.

Many hours have been spent this last week on this aircraft. The graphic work and sounds are astounding. Handling the actual plane is easy, aircraft performance is highly realistic a fact that was later confirmed while watching the ITVV DVD. I didnt have time to pitch this plane into some stormy weather but from what I experienced in my fair weather flight tests assures me this will be a memorable experience when I do get the time. Details like the animation of the R.A.T. help provide you with some interesting situations. Attention to detail is admirable.

The virtual cockpit is fully functional, gauges and switches also work on the first officer side. Again everything is hot, even the TCAS system works. All radios and intercoms work along with those that communicate with the ground crew.

A dedicated website for this simulator has been established and should be referred to often. Here you can load many more tutorials and flight adventures for the future. Be sure that you have a good sound card otherwise you may miss out on some of the realism this provides. Click Here to visit http://www.leveldsim.com.

So if you need to practice procedures, checklists, navigation or emergencies this is the right software for you. For novices this will be an educational experience well worth your time investment.

I can assure you Ive had plenty of great hours in this plane with many more to come. Lets meet at the forum!!!

Feature: Flying The Hump

The action in the skies over Europe and the Pacific is well known, but one of the lesser known aviation activities was equally challenging and dangerous. The massive airlift of supplies into China, flying over The Hump went on for years and involved vast numbers of planes and pilots flying over high mountains in difficult weather. Learn the history and then how you can fly The Hump yourself in flightsim. Andrew Herd's feature starts here.

Op-Ed: Terrorists, Natural Disasters and Flight Sim: Making a Connection

World peace through flightsimming? Well, maybe that's too much too expect, but our enthusiasm for the hobby and access to the Internet does put us in contact with people all over the world who, in things other than an interest in aviation, can be quite different. Author Ron Blehm examines the implications. Read more here.

The Big Question: How Close To Reality Are We Flying MSFS?

The "big question" of the feature title is one that flightsimmers debate often. In this article, author Jens Peter Bruun-Hansen offers his answer, after comparing FS2004 flying with some real light plane flying. Read more here.

 Feature: Interview With Alex Ford

Today we are fortunate to get a behind the scenes look at Just Flight as we had an opportunity to interview Alex Ford, who is Just Flight's Publishing Director. Learn more about how one of the flightsim hobby's major publishers works by reading part 1 of the interview, starting here.

Here we present number 6 in the series of columns by Chip Barber. We all want the latest and greatest in whatever computer gadget we are using, but sometimes it's better to leave well enough alone! Read all about it starting here.

Feature: Virtual Career

Captain Tony Vallillo is a real world 767 pilot who has shared his flying experiences with us in several past articles. As a real career pilot, he finds it interesting to compare the "virtual" careers that flightsimmers set up through virtual airlines and software like "Airline Pilot". Well, the virtual version isn't quite like the real thing. Tony provides the real story here.

 Variations On A Theme III

What happens when several different flightsimmers from various parts of the world and with different experience and preferences are given the same assignment: fly your one best passenger plane with Egypt as the destination. The result is all quite different flights. Read the story yourself and maybe give it a try. The whole story can be read here.

This rendition is based on the original Super 80, circa 1979. So with the combination of classic analog and early electronic navigation, you have a product that requires a lot of attention, but also rewards proper cockpit management. And if this does seem complicated, the new Integrated Cockpit Training System will help guide you through many of the steps required in order to have a successful and accurate flight.

FSCargo released
13.11.05 / 09:35 - SP

Category: MSFS/Commercial add-ons
'FSCargo is a brand new 'action add-on', developed by Maurizio Gavioli, Bill Womack and Francois Dumas. Many Flight Simulator users complain that they have 'nothing to do'. Sure, you can fly around, try various aircraft, download thousands of freeware sceneries and 'look at them'..... but then what?

This first product in the FSAction Series provides simmers with cargo transport assignments for almost any aircraft. Subsequent releases will expand cargo options and add more features. FSCargo is different from some other 'adventure' or 'management' add-ons that have been published so far, in that it actually shows you the cargo and the effects on the aircraft. You can see your cargo waiting for you on the platform, before you load it into your aircraft! Also included are a list of cargo areas and a history of past flights, with scores and average success.'

For more details, visit SimMarket. Add-on costs approx. 18 euros.
